Watson is a front-runner to lead the Pakistani men national team

Shane Watson, a former all-rounder for Australia and World Cup champion, has surfaced as a possible contender for the Pakistan national men’s cricket team’s coaching position.

As of right now, the 42-year-old is the head coach of the Quetta Gladiators in the ninth season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). Regarding the coaches, a decision is probably going to be made shortly.

However, Daren Sammy and Mike Hesson are also in the running for the coaching position.

In the current PSL, Hesson and Sammy are the head coaches of Islamabad United and Peshawar Zalmi, respectively.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is currently considering Sir Vivian Richards for a mentorship position.

The PCB, directed by Mohsin Naqvi, is eager to hire a capable coaching group for the cricket squad. It would be difficult to choose well-known coaches, though, as the majority of them work with leagues worldwide.

There are rumors that Pakistan and New Zealand’s five-match Twenty20 International series will take place in the second week of April.

It should be mentioned that in January of this year, Mickey Arthur, Grant Bradburn, and Andrew Puttick resigned from their posts at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Lahore following a change in their portfolios in November 2023.

Bradburn was appointed head coach of the Pakistan national men’s team earlier this year, while Arthur was made director of the country’s men’s cricket squad in April 2023. Puttick, a former cricket player for South Africa, has been a batting coach since April 2023.

All parties involved reached a mutually agreeable agreement, according to PCB.
