Why Squid Game Uses Triangle, Circle, and Square – Explained Simply

At a recent press event, Squid Game creator Hwang Dong-hyuk explained why he used the shapes circle, triangle, and square in the show.

He said these were the first images he thought of when he started planning Squid Game. They reminded him of childhood games, where these shapes were drawn on the ground.

Now, these shapes are everywhere in the show — on the guards’ masks, the Dalgona cookies, and the invitation cards given to players.

In season 1, the final game area was also shaped like these symbols, showing how important they are to the story.

Hwang said that, besides being from children’s games, these shapes also represent the endless competition seen in modern capitalist society, where people are always trying to win, often at any cost.

In the show, the shapes show the ranks of the guards — they tell us who is in charge and who must follow orders.

Hwang chose these simple shapes because they are easy to remember but still have deep meaning. Today, they are a powerful symbol of the show and the problems it talks about in society.

Even though Squid Game is continuing with new spin-off projects, season 3 will be the last part of Seong Gi-hun’s story.

Still, the triangle, square, and circle will stay iconic symbols of the series and keep people talking, even after the main story ends.

Big Surprise in Season 3 Finale

Fans were shocked in the final episode of Squid Game season 3 when Hollywood star Cate Blanchett made a surprise appearance.

Season 3 begins right after Player 456, Seong Gi-hun (played by Lee Jung-jae), started a rebellion in season 2.

Gi-hun wants to stop the deadly games, which are run by a secret group of rich people. But the ending suggests that the games might not be over yet.

In the final scene, the Front Man (played by Lee Byung-hun) is seen in Los Angeles. He sees someone playing the familiar Korean game of ddakji in a dark alley.

To everyone’s surprise, the recruiter is Cate Blanchett, wearing a suit and calmly talking to a man who is begging for another chance.
