System failing because of "establishment's interference," according to Fazl

The leader of Jamiat-e-Ulema Islam (JUI-F), Maulana Fazlur Rehman, declared on Tuesday that his party has chosen to stay out of politics, forecasting that the “system would collapse” as a result of the establishment’s overbearing meddling.

Speaking at a Peshawar party gathering, he expressed his worries about what he saw to be undue meddling in national affairs, to the extent that even candidates for elections were subject to undue influence. “This is not how a nation can run. The system is going to break,” he said.

“We have decided to stay out of the system and we do not want to join any government,” Fazl said, highlighting the choice to avoid getting involved in politics. He emphasized that those who were a part of such a defective system would eventually experience hopelessness, saying, “Those who are part of the system will cry.”

The leader of JUI-F revealed that the Central General Council of the party will meet to discuss how to proceed with parliamentary politics going forward. In addition, he declared that JUI-F would not participate in the next presidential elections.

Fazl made the following statement regarding his relationship with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI): “There was a’mountain’ and not a wall between us and PTI.” He clarified that although they were unable to refuse the PTI delegation entry because they had come to their location, disagreements remained between the two groups.

Fazl stated that he was against the imprisonment of any politician, including Imran Khan, the former prime minister. He denounced what he saw as JUI-F’s victimization during the most recent elections, linking it to the party’s initiatives to improve ties with Afghanistan and show support for the Palestinian leadership in Qatar.
