Tarbela Reservoir Full Indus River Sees Rising Flood Levels

Tarbela Reservoir Reaches Full Capacity Amid Rising River Inflows

ISLAMABAD — Tarbela Reservoir currently holds 5.7268 million-acre-feet (MAF) of water, reaching 100% of its storage capacity, according to a spokesperson from the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA). The Indus River’s inflow at Tarbela was recorded at 268,300 cusecs, while the outflow stood at 238,900 cusecs.

Meanwhile, Mangla Dam is filled to 1,217.45 feet, equivalent to 74.52% of its total capacity of 1,242 feet, storing 5.423 million-acre-feet of water. The Jhelum River’s inflow at Mangla reached 38,600 cusecs, while only 7,000 cusecs flowed out, WAPDA said.

At Chashma Barrage, the Indus River’s inflow measured 403,500 cusecs, with an outflow of 351,600 cusecs. The reservoir currently holds 94,000 MAF of water.

Overall, the country’s average water storage stands at 11.245 million-acre-feet, the WAPDA spokesperson added.

In terms of river conditions, the Indus is experiencing high flood levels at Guddu Barrage and medium flooding at Taunsa and Sukkur barrages. Low flood conditions were reported at Kalabagh and Chashma, while water levels below the low threshold were observed downstream at Kotri Barrage.
