Rose McGowan has shown public support for Meesha Shafi

Rose McGowan, a Hollywood star who played a significant role in the Harvey Weinstein prosecution, has publicly backed Meesha Shafi following her recent victory in a defamation case against a local station. Taking to Instagram Story, the singer posted a screenshot of the comment and referred to McGowan as her “inspiration.” Furthermore, Shafi said, “This means so much to me.”

On the other hand, McGowan commented, “Dearest Meesha, I am thrilled for and proud of you,” on Shafi’s post celebrating the star’s latest victory. You understand that being dragged and slandered is cruel. I have frequently doubted my sanity. After losing everything, life is more straightforward and pure. Nevertheless, we shouldn’t have lost everything. Your truth won. Praying for peace and healing. Love to you, fellow warrior.”

McGowan, on the other hand, took to Shafi’s post about the star’s recent win and wrote as a comment,

This comes after Shafi’s defamation action against a private channel was heard by the UK High Court, which decided in the musician’s favor during a preliminary hearing. The station was declared accountable by the court for uttering defamatory remarks in a broadcast that took place in December 2020. The station made the claim that Shafi willfully disregarded court orders for a period of two years, depicting her as a habitual violator of the court’s mandate.

The court emphasized that such claims might damage Shafi’s standing with the public, particularly in view of her position as a well-known Pakistani celebrity who actively promotes women’s rights. These claims were judged to be against social norms, which would harm Shafi’s reputation with the general public. Consequently, the channel has until January 26, 2024, to submit its defense to the court.

In 2020, McGowan had an exclusive Instagram Live session with Pakistani celebrity Ayesha Omar. The two discussed her experience from the beginning, when she first accused Weinstein of sexual harassment, to her coping mechanisms following his conviction. Omar also talked about her early years being taken advantage of by a powerful person in the industry.

McGowan talked about her experience getting well in Mexico following her horrific encounters with Weinstein. She said that Pearl, her therapy dog, helped her end her nightmares caused by post-traumatic stress disorder. McGowan also discussed her timing prior to the news breaking and her loud opposition to Weinstein for a long time. She connected the election of Trump to a turning point in public awareness of harassment.

Omar talked about how she was harassed into staying silent, and McGowan agreed that people should be free to decide whether to disclose or keep names private depending on their own schedules. McGowan underlined the significance of sharing tales at one’s own speed even though she hasn’t identified all of the parties involved. Citing interactions with a music producer, she observed a progressive shift in attitudes, admitting past transgressions and pursuing self-improvement, suggesting a possible change in society standards.
