Wahab Riaz, the chief selector for Pakistan’s men’s team, unveiled the 17-man team on Tuesday for the five-match Twenty20 International series against New Zealand, which will begin in Auckland on January 12.
During a press conference in Lahore, Wahab Riaz discussed the starting T20 cricket pairing of Babar and Rizwan.
“From now on, you must carry out tests. Our responsibility is to supply the director and captain with a team. We’ll have to wait and see whatever combination Sahibzada Farhan and Wahab choose to lead the squad ahead,” Wahab stated.
“It is not a given that any player who opens in this series, even if he is not Rizwan or Babar, will take that spot just because he comes in and plays well. In Pakistan, it frequently occurs that a player who performs well is unable to participate in a certain match for medical or fitness-related reasons. Then someone else takes his place, and we like him better if he does well. “I think the person who consistently delivers should be put back in that position,” he continued.
