Aspinall vs Gane Set for UFC 321 Heavyweight Title Showdown

Tom Aspinall Set for Title Defense at UFC 321 as Ciryl Gane Eyes Redemption

LONDON – Tom Aspinall is officially back in action after a 15-month layoff, and he’s stepping into the Octagon as the undisputed UFC heavyweight champion at UFC 321.

Aspinall’s last fight came in July 2024, when he stopped Curtis Blaydes in the first round to retain the interim title. He had long been targeting a unification bout with Jon Jones, but the much-anticipated showdown never materialized.

Following a prolonged absence from competition, Jon Jones announced his retirement, which led the UFC to promote Aspinall as the undisputed champion. However, in a dramatic twist, Jones soon declared a return — though by then, the title picture had already moved on.

UFC President Dana White recently expressed doubts about Jones’ reliability, stating he doesn’t expect him to be ready for a blockbuster event at the White House next year. Although Jones re-entered the UFC’s drug testing pool, signaling a potential comeback, White’s confidence appears to have waned.

With unification hopes dashed, Aspinall is now focused on a fresh challenge — Ciryl Gane.

The French contender is making his third run at the undisputed heavyweight title. Gane previously fell short against Francis Ngannou in 2022 and was submitted by Jon Jones in 2023. Currently riding a two-fight win streak, including a narrow decision over Alexander Volkov, Gane views UFC 321 as a make-or-break moment.

For Aspinall, it’s a chance to solidify his reign and prove himself as the legitimate top dog in the division. For Gane, it’s likely the final opportunity to capture UFC gold. Their showdown is shaping up to be a pivotal moment in the heavyweight landscape.
