HSY: Indian industry should treat Pakistan with the same respect

Hassan Sheheryar Yasin (HSY), a prominent figure in Pakistani design and television personality, recently made an insightful statement while appearing on Public Demand with Mohsin Abbas Haider. During the conversation, HSY highlighted his focus on Pakistan’s entertainment business by expressing his relief at not recognizing Indian influencer Uorfi Javed.

When asked about Uorfi, HSY acknowledged that he didn’t know much about her and emphasized how little he knew about the latest goings-on in the Indian entertainment industry. “Who is she?” HSY said as the panel of comedians started making jokes about the influencer. She wears skimpy clothing and is vying for the role of an actor, according to Mohsin. In response, the designer said, “It surprised me how little I know about what’s going on in the Indian sector. Sadly.”

“I think we should give them the attention they give us, which is almost nonexistent,” HSY continued. I focus a lot on the industry in Pakistan. In my opinion, show respect in order to receive it. Why should we respect someone if they aren’t doing the same for us?” In response, Mohsin acknowledged HSY as one of the musicians who represents Pakistan internationally and named other well-known Pakistani artists who have received recognition in India, including Atif Aslam, Mehdi Hassan, and Noor Jehan. While considering the long history of artistic interaction between the two nations, HSY voiced dissatisfaction with the political regulations that currently exist in India and limit cooperation with artists from Pakistan.

“There was a time when all our celebrities used to work there, and their people used to come here,” said the designer. “I’m not speaking of the populace or the nation. What I find problematic about their current political policies is their unwillingness to collaborate with others. Artist to artist, I don’t mind at all. Furthermore, I don’t believe that there should ever be an issue amongst artists. I have a serious issue with the voice that emerged there telling us not to collaborate just because we are Pakistani. All I’m talking about is deference. Respect yourself, and others will too.”

By emphasizing on honoring talent beyond geopolitical lines, HSY’s stance highlighted the significance of mutual respect and appreciation in developing strong cross-border artistic partnerships
