US Backs Missile Sale to Ukraine with European Support

KYIV – Ukraine is set to purchase missiles with the help of European partners and U.S. backing, the U.S. Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) confirmed in a statement.

The deal will be financed by Denmark, the Netherlands, and Norway, alongside a U.S. loan guarantee. According to the DSCA, the sale is aimed at strengthening Ukraine’s ability to defend itself and contribute to regional security.

“This proposed sale will improve Ukraine’s capability to meet current and future threats by further equipping it to conduct self-defense and regional security missions,” the agency said. It added that the move also supports U.S. foreign policy by reinforcing the security of a European partner.

The U.S. State Department has already approved the potential sale, and the DSCA has formally notified Congress, which must still give final approval before the deal goes ahead.

The decision comes as Russia’s war in Ukraine grinds on. Despite international pressure, President Vladimir Putin has shown little readiness to end the conflict since launching a full-scale invasion in 2022.

During his presidency, Joe Biden committed more than $65 billion in military aid to Kyiv. But his successor, Donald Trump, has signaled a shift in approach, urging European allies to take on a greater share of the burden in funding Ukraine’s defense.
