WhatsApp users drift to Telegram

WhatsApp recently updated its Privacy Policy, which lead to quite some rumors. However these were just mere rumors and people did not misinterpreted them; which resulted in the loss of WhatsApp itself.

In the latest Privacy Policy WhatsApp declares how it is a part of Facebook Companies and talks about collecting and sharing information. In addition, it explains how it collects all sorts of information which includes: –

  • Account Information
  • Messages (delivered, undelivered and media)
  • Connections
  • Status Information
  • Transactions and Payments Data
  • Device and Connection Information
  • Location
  • Cookies

In addition to this, it explains that being a part of Facebook Companies, they tend to share information with other Facebook Companies. This in result, confused many WhatsApp users and they started questioning about their privacy. As a result, many users shifted to Telegram.

However, WhatsApp clarified on it behalf and answered some of the most-asked questions. The Facebook-owned messaging app has said that policy updates do not affect users’ privacy with friends or family.

Telegram gains users

Telegram offers encrypted messaging options with end-to-end encryption. Moreover, due to Telegram’s strong privacy a large population started shifting to Telegram. The result was a mass migration that, if it lasts, could weaken the power of Facebook and other big tech companies.

Fears over WhatsApp’s privacy policies have driven Telegram’s popularity.
