Animal by Sandeep Reddy Vanga is a big blockbuster at the movie office. With a staggering INR5 billion in sales in India, Ranbir Kapoor’s most recent venture is rapidly approaching the enormous INR9 billion level globally. Nonetheless, the movie continues to draw some criticism from both reviewers and fans.
The director of Kabir Singh was asked why the movie’s adversary was a Muslim, among other things. During a recent interview with Galatta Plus, Sandeep shared the reasoning behind designing Bobby Deol’s character, Abrar, the antagonist in his upcoming movie, as a Muslim even though he comes from a Sikh household.
Abrar is portrayed as Rannvijay Singh’s cousin, who is portrayed by Ranbir. Sandeep explained that the goal was to provide opportunities for future storylines rather than to portray the Muslim community in a negative light.
Sandeep clarified that Bobby’s character needed to change due to the psychological trauma in his past. “I’ve seen people go to a church or see a baba, and he’ll give some taweez (pendant), change your name,” he said, describing the moment when they enter a state of zero confidence. Many have experienced so much that they have had to change their religion, as I have witnessed. At their lowest, people perceive it as a total identity shift, like a new birth. We see a lot of people converting to Islam and Christianity; we never see anybody converting to Hinduism.”
According to the director, he was able to depict Abrar as having several spouses and being able to have multiple children because of the premise. Since Muslims allow for the marriage of numerous spouses, I reasoned that I would use this. I may have several relatives with distinct facial features, which would increase the drama. That’s the sole explanation. He clarified that he had no intention of portraying a Muslim negatively.
In Animal, after his father dies tragically, Abrar has a severe emotional change that leaves him mute. After learning of Ranvijay’s surprising familial link, he launches a vendetta against him out of a desire for vengeance following the tragic death of his brother.
The director claims that because of the premise, he was allowed to portray Abrar as having several spouses and children. I figured that since Muslims permit many marriages, I would utilize this. There could be more drama if I had multiple cousins with different face traits. That’s the only reason. He made it clear that he wasn’t trying to paint a bad picture of a Muslim.
In Animal, Abrar experiences a profound emotional shift that renders him silent following the untimely death of his father. He becomes enraged at Ranvijay after discovering his unexpected family connection, driven by a desire for revenge after his brother’s untimely death.
However, Mansi Taxak, the actor who played Abrar’s third wife in the recently released film, got into hot water earlier for remarks she made about her contentious wedding night scene. Nonetheless, Mansi refuted claims of any violence taking place at the site in a Zoom Entertainment interview. In that particular scene, the actor nodded at Abrar’s “twisted” nature, explaining his acts as a result of his “animal instincts.”
