Microsoft Expands Windows 11 Dark Mode Ahead of 25H2 Update
The world’s leading tech giant, Microsoft, has introduced a preview build of Windows 11 that expands dark mode support, hinting at a broader visual overhaul expected with the upcoming 25H2 update.
The latest Insider builds now feature dark-themed file operation dialogs, including copy, delete, and move prompts, making the user interface more consistent. These changes were first spotted by Windows enthusiast Phantomofearth, who shared screenshots of the updated UI on social media.
However, not all parts of Windows 11 have been updated. Classic components such as the Control Panel, Run dialog, and file properties windows still appear in light mode. Experts believe Microsoft will continue refining these areas in future updates, though no official confirmation has been made.
The update marks a major step toward UI consistency across Windows 11, bringing it closer to Apple’s macOS, which has offered a uniform dark mode since Mojave in 2018. It also aligns with Microsoft’s upcoming “Liquid Glass” redesign, which emphasizes transparency and modern visual effects.
Currently, the enhanced dark mode remains hidden in preview builds but can be activated manually using the ViVeTool utility. Some UI elements, including certain buttons, still lack full dark mode support, indicating that development is ongoing.
These gradual but impactful changes highlight Microsoft’s renewed focus on user experience and design harmony in its flagship operating system.
