The Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, introduced a new initiative called ‘Zero Bureaucracy,’ aimed at enhancing the efficiency of administrative processes related to residency and employment in Dubai. This initiative was announced alongside the launch of the “Employment Package.”
Previously, the process of bringing a new employee on board in Dubai required 30 days and involved submitting 16 different documents. However, under the new instructions, the process has been significantly streamlined. Now, it takes only five days to complete, with just five documents required.
The Employment Package offers a range of services related to residency and employment procedures, including issuing work and residency permits for new employees, renewing residency permits, conducting medical fitness tests for residency visas, and canceling work permits. While most of these services will be accessible online, certain aspects, such as medical checks and fingerprint scanning, will still require in-person visits.
Broader Invest in Dubai Platform
This initiative is part of the broader Invest in Dubai platform, which aims to provide efficient services to the multitude of companies operating in Dubai, estimated to be over 275,000. Sheikh Mohammed emphasized that the streamlined processes would not only save time but also have significant cost-saving implications for both governmental and private sectors.
This initiative aims to simplify the process for new employees by eliminating the need to visit multiple departments separately. Instead, the collaboration of various government entities, including Dubai Health, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, Dubai Economy and Tourism, the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security, and the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai (GDRFA), enables a more centralized and efficient approach.
The GDRFA-Dubai anticipates a 25% increase in service transactions following the launch of this new platform, indicating a positive response and uptake from individuals and businesses alike. Overall, this initiative represents a significant step towards enhancing the ease of doing business and attracting talent to Dubai’s vibrant economy.
