Army Denies Rumors About Asim Munir Becoming President
ISLAMABAD – The Pakistan Army has denied all rumors about Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir wanting to become the next President of Pakistan.
In an interview with The Economist, DG ISPR Lt. Gen. Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said, “These claims are completely false.” He was talking about reports that started after a campaign called the “Battle of Truth.”
He also rejected all political comments and analysis made after the campaign.
When asked what Pakistan would do if India took military action, DG ISPR gave a strong warning. He said, “This time, we will begin from the East of India.” He added that Pakistan’s response would start with a deep strike inside India. He said India must understand that it can also be targeted.
Last month, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also rejected the same rumors. He said that Field Marshal Asim Munir has no plan to become the President. Naqvi called these rumors “completely false and harmful to national stability.”
In a statement on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), the minister said that these false reports were part of a negative campaign. He said some hostile elements and foreign agencies are trying to create problems by spreading lies against President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and the Army Chief.
