Star Batsman Babar Azam made his Test Captaincy debut on Tuesday. Azam revealed that his journey of becoming the Test captain started in 2007.

On 23rd January 2021, the Pakistan Cricket Board posted a video covering his story.

Start of the Journey

Babar reveals that he was a ball-picker back in 2007. The test match between Pakistan and South Africa held in Lahore increased his passion for the game. Moreover, he explains how he wanted to see international stars playing in front of him. In addition, this encouraged him to become a ball-picker. As a result, he asked someone to help him. He went from Gulberg to Gaddafi Stadium daily.

Babar says that he used to enjoy picking up balls. He watched Inzamam-ul-Haq’s farewell innings where he got out before breaking the record of great Javed Miandad. As result, he feels blessed to make his Test captaincy debut against the same team.

Test Captain

Pakistan appointed Babar Azam as test captain in 2019. He was given the role in both limited overs formats last year. His first assignment in T20Is was against Australia in November 2019.

Babar has been a crucial part of the Pakistan Test line-up ever since.

Babar will be leading the national team for the first time in the five-day format in the first Test against South Africa. It will begin from Tuesday at the National Stadium in Karachi.
