Balochistan Honor Killing: Victim’s Mother Defends Tribal Chief, PM Orders Investigation

QUETTA – A disturbing twist has emerged in the high-profile Balochistan honour killing case, as the mother of the slain woman, Bano, defended the murder and publicly urged authorities to release tribal leader Sardar Sher Baz Satakzai.

In a video statement that has sparked fresh outrage, Bano’s mother claimed her daughter was “punished” by Balochi tribal customs and insisted that Sardar Sher Baz bore no responsibility for the killing. “I appeal to the authorities to release Sardar Sher Baz Satakzai and all others involved,” she said, justifying the murder under traditional norms.

The case gained national attention after a video allegedly recorded during Eid al-Adha surfaced, showing armed men brutally killing a man and a woman in what authorities believe was an act of honour killing. The graphic footage prompted swift action from law enforcement.

So far, at least 11 suspects have been arrested, including Satakzai, the tribal chief. Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti confirmed the arrests on X (formerly Twitter), stating that the government stands with the victims and will not tolerate such acts. “Operations are continuing effectively,” Bugti said.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also condemned the incident, directing authorities to conduct a transparent and immediate investigation. According to the PM Office Media Wing, Sharif personally contacted CM Bugti and urged that justice be served without delay.

Meanwhile, the prime suspect has been sent on physical remand as investigations continue into the double murder that has shaken the region and reignited debate around honour-based violence in Pakistan.
