Balochistan Honor Killing 11 Held After Viral Eid Video

Balochistan Honor Killing: 11 Arrested, Including Tribal Chief, After Viral Video Sparks Outrage

QUETTA – In a major development following the viral video of an alleged honor killing in Balochistan, authorities have arrested 11 suspects, including the head of the Satakzai tribe, Sardar Sherbaz Satakzai.

According to officials, the brutal killing of a man and woman—allegedly filmed during Eid al-Adha—surfaced online and triggered swift action from the provincial government. The chilling video showed armed men executing the victims in what is believed to be a so-called honor killing.

Acting on a request from police, authorities have ordered the exhumation of the bodies under a magistrate’s supervision to aid the investigation. A case has been registered under state complaint, and operations are ongoing.

Government spokesperson Shahid Rind stated that NADRA records were used to identify individuals seen in the footage. While the suspects and involved tribes have been recognized, their names are being withheld for now.

Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti confirmed the arrests on social media platform X, assuring the public that justice will be served. “Operations are continuing effectively, and the state stands with the oppressed,” he said, vowing to bring all culprits to justice.

The incident has reignited national debate around gender-based violence and the persistent issue of honor killings in Pakistan. According to the Sustainable Social Development Organisation (SSDO), 32 cases of honor killings were reported in Balochistan in 2024 alone, with only one resulting in a conviction.

Police raids and investigations remain ongoing as public outrage continues to mount.
