Balochistan University Professor Confesses Links to BLA in Viral Video Statement
QUETTA — A video statement of Dr. Usman Qazi, a professor at Balochistan University of Information Technology and Management Sciences (BUITEMS) who was recently arrested, has surfaced online, in which he admitted to having connections with the banned Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) and assisting in their activities.
In his confessional video, Dr. Usman revealed, “Both my wife and I are government employees. I completed my PhD from Peshawar University and was serving as a Grade-18 lecturer at BUITEMS. During an academic visit from Peshawar to Quaid-e-Azam University, I met three friends who were associated with the BLA. Later, two of them were killed.”
He said he was later approached by Dr. Hebtan, also known as Kalak, who inducted him into the organization.
Dr. Usman also named Bashir Zeb as another BLA contact, with whom he communicated via Telegram. Within the group, he said he was assigned the alias “Amir” and took part in three different tasks for the organization.
Detailing his involvement, Dr. Usman admitted:
Medical assistance: He provided medical help to Regional Commander Sher Dil.
Harboring militants: In November, he sheltered two militants at his residence; one of them later carried out a suicide attack at Quetta Railway Station.
Providing weapons: He gave a pistol to a woman for use in target killing operations.
Facilitating attacks: He hosted Nauman, also known as Firq, at his home for eight days before handing him over to another BLA commander, who planned a suicide attack for August 14.
The video comes amid continued scrutiny of BLA activities, which were recently designated as an organization by the United States, alongside the Majeed Brigade.
