Bilawal Calls for Transparency in Sindh Flood Relief Efforts
Karachi: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has emphasized the importance of transparency, swift execution, and long-term planning in the ongoing flood relief and rehabilitation efforts across Sindh.
During a meeting with Sindh Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, Bilawal underlined the importance of sustainable recovery measures for flood-hit areas. “There should be no lack in helping the victims. A comprehensive strategy must be adopted for their rehabilitation,” he said, urging officials to ensure accountability in every step of the process.
Briefing the PPP chairman, Nasir Shah said rescue operations were underway in Sukkur, Rohri, and other affected districts. He assured that relief camps and emergency teams were on high alert. “The Sindh government’s machinery is fully prepared to deal with any unforeseen situation and stands firmly with the people,” he added.
Nasir Shah also requested Bilawal to press the federal government for the immediate release of pending funds allocated for housing and infrastructure repairs, which are critical to speeding up relief operations.
In response, Bilawal confirmed that he had already initiated talks with federal authorities to accelerate the release of the promised funds.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who is currently visiting China, has directed the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to intensify its flood preparedness efforts. In a phone call with NDMA Chairman Lt Gen Inam Haider Malik, the prime minister instructed the authority to issue timely warnings to residents along the Ravi, Chenab, and Sutlej rivers, where rising water levels pose a risk of further flooding.
