Skin Care Routine Order: How To Apply Skincare Product In A Right Order

Applying skincare products in a sequence order can increase the absorption of more active ingredients used in products on your skin. Then it will give you better results of your products to your skin.

The first important order is to start your skincare from thinnest to thickest consistency, to ensure that the thinnest product absorbs by the skin and is followed by richer and thicker products. When not knowingly applied thickest product it acts as a barrier for the thinnest product, and it will block active ingredients you want to absorb.

You don’t need to invest your money in a fancy 10-step skincare routine, you just need a basic routine which includes a cleanser, moisturizer, and SPF. This is the best basic order it will clear, hydrate and protect your skin from the sun. But if you want to add other products to your routines to treat certain skin concerns, here’s the reliable order for that.

Step 1: Cleanser

Washing your skin with a good cleanser must be the first step. Cleaning your skin gives a clean slate for products to absorb and activate into your skin. Cleanser washed dirt, oil, and must which accumulating in and around your skin pores.

Your cleanser should be alcohol-free, gentle and non-abrasive/rough. A cleanser must not contain ingredients which remove too many layers of skin oils that act as a maintain a balanced skin barrier.

Furthermore, different skin requires different cleanser products some require more hydrating or oil-reducing ingredients. Goldman suggested that your skin needs niacinamide, green tea extract, or chamomile to smooth your skin without striping or over-moisturizing. Cleansers that contain ceramides, glycerin, hyaluronic acid  and alo vera help to have hydrated and moisturised dry skin.

Step 2: Toner

A toner is not always important, but after cleansing it removes additional dirt and oil from your face, Toner also prepares your skin for other skin products. Toner also has work to maintain your dry skin hydrate and good skin pH, which may benefit to prevent acne.

Sensitive and dry skin needs to use hydrating hyaluronic acid or rose water toner. people with acne may want products that remove excess oil like salicylic acid or witch hazel contains astringent properties.

You can apply by using a cotton pad or ball. Soak your cotton pad with toner, and gently pat it onto your face.

Step 3: Spot treatment

If you want to treat dark patches and acne, the spot treatment step must be used after cleansing and toning. Serums must be used after toner and before moisturizer. These spot treatment products target small areas of your skin and contain active ingredients depending on what you are treating. Applying spot treatment products to your fresh skin helps the ingredients to work more actively and maximize the penetrating to your skin.

Apply after cleansing and toner by taking a small amount and only to the affected area.

Step 4: Serums

Serums must be applied on fresh skin after cleanser and toner. Serums are quickly absorbed by the skin and are a generic term for skin care products that contain a high concentration of active ingredients.

Serums are usually lightweight and water-based to help them penetrate the skin and improve hydration, brightening or other targeting specific skin issues. Many popular serums include vitamin C, niacinamide, anti-ageing and hydrating serums.

Apply a pea-sized amount of serum or there will be an amount suggested by the product manufacturer, to your face with clean fingers. After applying serum gently rub the product in a light tabbing motion into your face and neck.

Step5: Retinol and Other Retinoid Treatments

Retinol and other retinoid treatment products must be used after serums because these retinol are thicker in consistency. Before applying the retinol make sure your serum has already penetrated the skin, this will allow retinol to reach deeper layers of the skin and activate its ingredients which increases its benefits.

Retinol turns on the skin cells, increases collagen production, and improves overall skin texture and is beneficial for anti-ageing and acne.

Step6: Eye cream

If you want to use an eye cream, apply after-treatment products because it has a thicker consistency and this will help it absorb better. Eye creams add more hydration and moisturizer to the under-eye area. It is also good for the skin of your under eyes which is prone to wrinkles and sun damage.

Step7: Moisturizer

Moisturizers usually are of thick consistency and must be used after serums or treatments. if you are using a basic skincare routine use it after cleansing, it increases the water in your skin and repairs your skin barrier. Moisturizers should not be used before serums because they prevent the full absorption of thinner products.

Step8: Face oils

Face oils also further moisturize and hydrate your skin. Face oils should always be applied after your moisturizer. Avocado oil and coconut oil are beneficial for hydrating and nourishing your skin

Step9: Sunscreen

Sunscreen should be the last step of your skincare routine. It helps to protect from UV rays that cause skin cancer and signs of premature ageing like sunspots and wrinkles.
