Brazil Dominates Chile in Sixth Straight Win

RIO DE JANEIRO — Brazil continued their unbeaten streak against Chile with a commanding 2-0 victory, marking their sixth consecutive head-to-head win over La Roja.

The five-time world champions had already secured a place in the finals, while Chile’s hopes of a North American trip remain dashed. The difference in class was clear at the iconic Maracanã Stadium, as Brazil controlled the game from start to finish.

Despite dominating possession, Brazil struggled to find an early breakthrough. Gabriel Magalhães saw a header saved, and Casemiro’s goal was ruled out for offside after beating Chilean goalkeeper Lawrence Vigouroux.

Brazil finally broke the deadlock in the 38th minute when Estevão scored with an acrobatic finish. Chile’s Guillermo Maripán was initially shown a red card for a foul on Wesley, but the decision was later downgraded to a yellow.

The second half followed a similar pattern, with Brazil probing consistently while Chile remained disciplined, blocking shots and putting their bodies on the line.

Tactical substitutions helped Brazil seal the win. Carlo Ancelotti introduced Luiz Henrique, who made an immediate impact. Just four minutes after coming on, Henrique’s shot bounced off the crossbar perfectly for Bruno Guimarães to tap in Brazil’s second goal.

Looking ahead, Brazil can finish behind runaway leaders Argentina if they beat Bolivia in the final qualification match. A draw will still guarantee them a top-four spot. Meanwhile, Chile faces a daunting challenge, needing a win against Uruguay to avoid finishing last after a fifth consecutive game without scoring.
