Bukhari Backs Maryam Rejects PPP Demand
Azma Bukhari Rules Out Apology, Defends Maryam Nawaz’s Remarks
LAHORE – Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari has dismissed the Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) demand for an apology from Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz over her recent remarks, saying the CM will not retract her statements.
Addressing the issue, Bukhari highlighted the Cholistan water canal matter, stressing that Punjab had stepped back despite protests from Sindh. She urged PPP to “focus on its own work and let PML-N do its job.”
Rejecting the demand outright, the minister questioned why Maryam Nawaz should apologize for “working for the rights of Punjabis.” She added, “People praise Lahore’s development. Karachi should also be transformed into Europe. In Sindh, people wish they had a chief minister like Maryam Nawaz.”
Bukhari further said this is not the time for political point-scoring, as the Punjab CM is actively helping people affected by recent losses. She emphasized that the provincial government has full authority to decide on relief measures.
Responding to PPP’s advice, she remarked, “PPP can give suggestions, but accepting them is our choice. We are already doing better than what was proposed under BISP. It is the chief minister’s prerogative to decide how Punjab’s people are supported.”
