Chaman Clash Kills 7 Quetta Highway Blocked Amid Tensions
Deadly Armed Clash in Chaman Raises Tensions, Highway Blocked
One more victim has succumbed to injuries sustained during a violent armed clash in Chaman, pushing the death toll to seven, according to police sources.
The incident occurred in the volatile border town of Chaman, located in Pakistan’s Balochistan province near the Afghan frontier. Frontier Corps (FC) personnel were deployed to control the situation and managed to halt the fighting temporarily.
In the aftermath, tensions remain high. One of the groups involved in the clash has blocked the vital Quetta-Chaman highway at Qila Abdullah, resulting in massive traffic congestion and long queues of stranded vehicles. The highway is a key trade and travel route between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Local authorities, including the Deputy Commissioner of Qila Abdullah, tribal elders, and religious scholars, convened at Jungle Pir Alizai police station to assess the situation and explore peaceful resolutions.
This latest violence adds to a series of ongoing conflicts in the region, which has long been troubled by tribal disputes and border-related tensions. The current highway closure has disrupted trade flow and cross-border movement, underscoring the strategic importance of the route.
Negotiations are ongoing to reopen the highway, and security forces remain on high alert to prevent any escalation.
CM Orders Probe into Balochistan Couple Killing
In a separate development, Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti has ordered an inquiry into a viral video showing the killing of a man and a woman in the province. The footage sparked widespread outrage over the weekend.
Government spokesperson Shahid Rind confirmed that a case has been registered, even though the victims’ family did not report the incident. “We are treating this as a state-led prosecution,” Rind said.
Authorities are continuing investigations as calls for justice intensify across the province.
