Chehlum Processions Across Pakistan Under Tight Security
Chehlum Processions Held Nationwide Amid Tight Security
Cities across Pakistan are witnessing Chehlum processions today, with mourners carrying Alam and Zuljinah, reciting nohas and performing matam to honor the martyrs of Karbala.
In Karachi, the main procession will begin from Nishtar Park at 1 PM and move through its traditional route on MA Jinnah Road. Authorities have enforced strict security, placing containers to block side streets, while the Bomb Disposal Unit has searched and sealed markets along the route. Over 4,000 police personnel are on duty, Section 144 is in force, and mobile phone services will be partially suspended in key areas.
In Lahore, the central Chehlum procession will start from Haveli Alaf Shah at Delhi Gate and conclude at Karbala Gamay Shah, passing through the city’s historic routes. Across Punjab, 382 processions and congregations are being guarded by more than 30,000 police personnel. In Lahore alone, over 5,000 officers, 12 SPs, and multiple security teams are deployed to safeguard 40 majalis and 12 azadari processions.
Peshawar will host two Zuljinah processions today — one from Imambargah Akhundabad and the other from Jamia Masjid Kocha Risaldar, both starting at 3 PM. A majlis is also scheduled at Imambargah Alamdar Karbala at noon. Each procession will return to its respective Imambargah under tight security arrangements.
