Chishtian Floods Sutlej Breaches Embankments

Chishtian Hit by Devastating Floods as Sutlej River Overflows

Chishtian – Severe flooding has engulfed Chishtian city after the Sutlej River swelled to alarming levels, breaching protective embankments and causing widespread destruction.

According to local authorities, dykes at Motianwala Pattan and Moza Azeem collapsed under the strong river currents, submerging more than 100 villages. Hundreds of houses have been destroyed, while nearly 10,000 acres of standing crops have been swept away.

The flood has also washed away key connecting roads, leaving many settlements cut off and inaccessible. Thousands of residents have been forced to flee their homes, urgently appealing for relief and assistance.

A rescue operation, supervised by the local DSP, is underway. Officials report that more than 80 percent of the affected population and livestock have been relocated to safer areas.

In Bahawalnagar, water levels under the Baba Farid Bridge and Bhookan Pattan Bridge continue to rise. Floodwaters have breached embankments at Chaweka and Bahadurka, submerging several more villages, including Chak Chaweka and Chak Bahadurka, and devastating vast stretches of farmland.

The Chaweka Sutlej Road has also been completely washed away, cutting off ground connectivity with nearby areas. Evacuations are ongoing as authorities struggle to contain the crisis.

Officials confirmed that over 150,000 cusecs of water are flowing into the region from Head Sulemanki, further worsening the situation.
