Colours That Look Extra Good on South Asian People
There is no denying the fact that certain colours make you glow better. Keeping that in mind, I’ve enlisted eleven colours that look so good on South Asian people, you’d never wanna wear anything else again.
Fiery Red
Wonder why most brides in South Asia adorn themselves in red bridal attire on their wedding day? Well, that’s because most women here have warm/olive undertones that look extra good when paired with them. Red, relative to other colours, leads men to view women as more attractive and more physically desirable. Researchers at the University of Illinois found that red is also associated with strength and power.
Dirty Olive Green
This green hue really accentuates your gorgeous brown skin and makes you look like a diva. Paired with the right accessories and makeup, it can really bring out your features and warm olive undertones in your skin. When paired with gold jewellery, this colour adds that wow factor too. Being a highly popular colour, especially during fall on the designers’ radar, it’ll surely make heads turn. Moreover, don’t restrict colours to your clothes only. Experiment with olive coloured eyeshadows, stones in your jewellery, headpieces etc and you’re sure to mesmerize people.
Burgundy
If red and purple had a baby together, it would be called burgundy! This colour looks breathtakingly stunning on South Asian skin tones especially. The cool thing about this one is that it can be dressed up and dressed down according to your liking. Being a hot favourite of many designers out there for haute couture and simple lawn suits, this hue doesn’t disappoint. It makes you look astonishingly radiant and we love that! Incorporate this in your makeup, outfit, nails, even your hair colour. Burgundy never lets you down!
Dark Cerise Pink
This is a very unusual colour, looks like a dark pink but has neutral undertones and leans towards being slightly purple. Cerise looks jaw-dropping on South Asian skin tones. It makes you glow better, makes your eyes pop and brings out the warmth in your skin. So, so, so beautiful! C’mon let’s be real, doesn’t Deepika just look like an absolute vision!?
Ivory
A white with warm undertones is all we need to accentuate beautiful, earthy, brown hues in South Asian skin. From celebrities walking on red carpets adorned in ivory-coloured couture gowns to nikkah brides wearing lehngas and ghararas on their big day, this colour never fails. When paired with gold, this becomes a popular wedding go-to. Maybe that’s the reason behind Sonam Kapoor choosing to keep an ivory and gold theme on her Mehndi ceremony. And to say everybody looked like a dream, would be an understatement!
Rust/Pumpkin
Whether you choose to refer to this colour as rust or pumpkin, the truth is that nothing brings out the gorgeousness of South Asian complexions than this one does. Whether it is brides wearing it as heavy, embellished lehengas or celebrities sporting it in casual, satin shirts, this colour only adds to your beauty and the warmth of your earthy complexion. A top favourite, in my opinion.
Chartreuse
A hybrid of lime-green and bright yellow, this colour makes every South Asian glow like no other. We have witness celebrities sporting this at major events as wedding guests. Even globally renowned, ethnic designers like Sabyasachi introduced bridal attires in this vibrant, feisty colour. Alia Bhatt in India and Mawra Hocane in Pakistan have played a huge role in making this shade of green look not-so-intimidating. The trick is to keep everything else like your jewellery and makeup understated and low-key to make it seem more wearable and appealing.
Sky Blue
Brown skin and sky blue complement one another like ketchup do to fries. Whether this shade is used in makeup, nail colour, jewellery or in outfits, it never looks nasty on South Asian skin. The brilliance and vivacity of this gorgeous shade are pronounced even more when incorporated in desi outfits. Whether you’re struggling to decide a colour for your bridesmaids’ dresses or want to rock it as a contemporary bride, sky blue would always make heads turn. Pinky promise!
Gold
Good, old gold! What a classic colour! South Asians rock gold as no one else does. Whether it’s jewellery, or shoes or makeup; gold is such a timeless colour to go with. It makes you dazzle like no other and is a foolproof option especially for formal events like weddings if you’re contemplating. You’d look like an absolute gilded goddess with this one. *inserts heart-eyed emoji*
Marigold
A warmer, deeper and with a much orangey hue of yellow, anyone? Yes, please! What a gorgeous colour this is! If you have seen marigold flowers in real, there is a reason why bridal jewellery and mehndi bridal décor is made out of them. They make the “bridal glow” evident on their faces! Weddings, red carpets, Bollywood movies, we see versions of marigold everywhere. So however you choose to incorporate it into your look, you’d seem like a bright ray of sunshine. Or a sunflower, who knows?
Ultraviolet
Let’s throw some facts here. On the colour wheel, brown is directly opposite to purple. This means that if there’s a colour that most certainly complements brown skin, it is the good, old purple. What a versatile colour, though! Whether it’s on outfits, eyeshadow, lipstick, nails; it always hits the mark right and makes you look like an awestriking vision. So stunning!
