Court Slams NADRA Over Fathers CNIC Delay
Court Scolds NADRA Over Delay in Issuing CNIC to Father of 11
Karachi: Justice Muhammad Iqbal Kalhoro presided over a hearing concerning a petition filed by Maulana Abdul Bashar, a father of 11 children, against the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) for failing to issue his Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC).
During the proceedings, Justice Kalhoro sharply criticized NADRA officials for their inaction, questioning why the CNIC had not been issued despite all required documents being submitted.
“The applicant has been running in circles since 2004. If all the documents are in order, why hasn’t the identity card been issued?” Justice Kalhoro asked.
He further remarked, “Has NADRA established a monarchy? Are you running your own court? It seems like you have created a state within a state.”
The court also highlighted that NADRA had already issued birth certificates for all 11 of Bashar’s children, questioning why the father’s CNIC application had not been processed. “Nowhere in NADRA’s response is it stated that the documents are fake,” the judge noted.
Petitioner Maulana Abdul Bashar told the court that he had been visiting NADRA offices since 2004 without any success. “Because I don’t have a CNIC, my children are being denied school admissions. Their education is suffering,” he said.
Expressing serious concern over the matter, the court adjourned the hearing for one week.
