Saif Ali Khan’s uncle was Shahryar Khan, the former chairman of the PCB
Shahryar Khan, a well-known person in the cricket world and the former chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), passed away unexpectedly at the age of 89. It was confirmed by family sources that he had been ailing for a long time prior to his away.
He was hailed by magazines like Live Mint as “Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi’s cousin who restored India-Pakistan cricket ties,” and his diplomatic skills and love of the game were essential in defusing tensions and fostering a sense of brotherhood between the two countries.
Beyond his important diplomatic role in cricket, Shahryar Khan had interesting family links. Remarkably, he was the uncle of Bollywood star Saif Ali Khan, according to The Current and One Cricket, which added a cultural dimension that went beyond entertainment and athletics.
Proven to be descended from the illustrious royal line of the former princely state of Bhopal, his roots may be found in Afghanistan, where his ancestors fled in the early 1700s. Shahryar Khan continues to make outstanding contributions to cricket, especially in strengthening relations between India and Pakistan, two bitter rivals.
His roots are firmly entrenched in the subcontinent’s royal archives. He was born on March 29, 1934, in Bhopal State, British India, in the ancient Qasr-e-Sultani Palace, which is currently home to Saifia College. He was the only child and male heir of Princess Begum Abida Sultan, the Crown Princess and oldest child of the last Nawab to rule Bhopal, Hajji-Hafiz Sir Muhammad Nawab Hamidullah Khan, and Nawab Muhammad Sarwar Ali Khan, the ruler of the erstwhile princely state of Kurwai.
Shahryar Khan made a concerted effort to preserve the integrity and spirit of cricket throughout his time as PCB Chairman, skillfully and diligently managing the difficulties of cricket administration. Future generations will be motivated by his legacy as a forward-thinking administrator who used cricket to foster international understanding and establish bridges between different countries.
Shahryar Khan lasting impact on cricket and his ongoing efforts to promoting international understanding will be revered and gratefully remembered as Pakistan grieves the death of one of its cricketing icons.
