The man behind the controversial viral garment admits to killing his wife
Nobody will have been familiar with Kier Johnston’s name. But everyone will recognize the white-and-gold or black-and-blue gown the mother-of-the-bride wore at his and his wife Grace’s 2015 wedding.
Kier, 38, has admitted to trying to kill his wife, and now, over ten years after everyone debated the dress’ color and it went viral, British media has revealed that he has been sentenced to prison.
The Guardian reports that Kier entered a guilty plea to the attack on Thursday at the Glasgow high court and was placed under remand until the end of the month, pending the imposition of a punishment. The couple was living on a secluded Scottish island when Grace was assaulted by Kier on March 6, 2022.
Grace had disobeyed her husband’s orders a few days prior to not show up for a mainland job interview. Court records, according to People, attest to Keir’s indictment following his assault, which included pinning his wife to the ground and sitting astride her. In addition, he held a knife and threatened to kill her. Grace was severely bruised during the attack, but she did not need medical attention. According to the defense attorney, Kier acknowledged being responsible for the assault. On June 6, he will be sentenced.
A guest at the couple’s wedding posted a snapshot of the now-famous attire. Celebrities like Ellen DeGeneres and Kim Kardashian got entangled in the controversy surrounding the dress, and the latter invited the pair to her talk show, where they won a vacation to Grenada and $10,000.
