CTD Foils Terror Plot, Arrests Three Suspects in Kotri Operation
Hyderabad – The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) foiled a major terror plot after arresting three suspected militants during an overnight raid near Bholari Road, Site Area Kotri, on August 28-29.
According to a CTD spokesperson, the suspects—identified as Hanif Bhatt, Mashooq Rind, and Sher Ali—were taken into custody. Officials recovered hand grenades, explosives, prohibited weapons, and ammunition from their possession.
Preliminary investigations suggest the group was planning a large-scale terrorist attack on September 6 (Youm-e-Shuhada). The suspects were also linked to multiple assaults on cargo trailers traveling from Sindh to Punjab and had long been wanted in several terrorism-related cases.
CTD revealed that one of the arrested men, Hanif Bhatt, was a highly wanted terrorist in Hyderabad. The group was reportedly acting on the directions of Noor Chandio, while operational orders were relayed through Arbab Bheel via an associate named Halar Chang.
Authorities added that the same network had attempted to stage an attack on August 14 in Hyderabad, but their plan was foiled due to heightened security measures.
Investigations further showed that the group had previously split into two factions. Several members of one faction—including Aamir Latif Chang, Shoaib Chang, and Shaban Chang—were already in custody. Bhatt had earlier escaped during a separate raid but was apprehended this time.
Before their arrest, the suspects had allegedly reconciled and were plotting to sabotage the Bholari railway track. The spokesperson added that all financial support for the group came through Halar Chang.
“Further investigations are underway,” the CTD confirmed.
