Ishaq Dar Urges Stronger Global Action for Palestine at OIC Summit
JEDDAH – Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar has called on the international community to take urgent and concrete steps to safeguard Palestinian rights, warning that Israel’s actions threaten regional peace and global stability.
Speaking at the 21st Extraordinary Session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers in Jeddah, Dar stressed the full implementation of the UN Security Council’s resolutions on Palestine and highlighted the need for stronger international support for the UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), which he described as a lifeline for millions of Palestinians.
He condemned forced displacement, settlement expansion, and the annexation of Palestinian land in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, warning that Israel’s declared intention to occupy Gaza City amounted to an attempt to erase Palestinian identity and heritage. “Such actions must be firmly opposed,” he said, urging accountability for war crimes and crimes against humanity.
Dar further called out Israeli incursions into Al-Quds Al-Sharif and the desecration of Al-Aqsa Mosque, describing them as a blatant violation of international law and an intolerable provocation for the Muslim world. He emphasized that the OIC must remain united in protecting Islamic and Christian holy sites.
The deputy prime minister urged the UN Security Council to impose costs on Israel for defying international law and to consider deploying an international protection force for Gaza’s besieged population.
Reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment, Dar said Palestine remains a top priority for the country. As a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, Pakistan will continue working with OIC and Arab partners to mobilize global support for Palestinian self-determination, justice, and peace.
He also criticized the Israeli prime minister’s call for a so-called “Greater Israel,” labeling it a direct threat to regional and global security. “The root cause of this tragedy is Israel’s prolonged, illegal occupation of Palestinian territory. Until it ends, peace will remain elusive,” he said.
Dar assured Arab states of Pakistan’s full support in defending their sovereignty and welcomed the growing international momentum in favor of Palestinian statehood and full UN membership.
