Drone Disruptions Hit Denmark Airports
Drone Sightings Disrupt Airports Across Denmark
COPENHAGEN – Multiple airports in Denmark reported drone activity late Wednesday, forcing a temporary shutdown at Aalborg airport, one of the country’s busiest hubs after Copenhagen.
North Jutland police said drones were spotted flying over a wide area near Aalborg airport and the Skrydstrup airbase. The drones eventually left on their own, but authorities were unable to bring them down or identify their operators.
“It was not possible to take down the drones, which flew over a very large area for a couple of hours. At this time, we have not apprehended the drone operators either,” Chief Inspector Jesper Bojgaard Madsen said.
Airports in Esbjerg and Sonderborg also reported drone activity, though they were not closed as no flights were scheduled until Thursday morning. Witnesses described seeing drones with lights, but police said the type and purpose of the drones remain unclear.
South Jutland police confirmed they are working with the Danish intelligence service (PET) and the Armed Forces to investigate the incidents.
The sightings follow an earlier disruption at Copenhagen airport, where Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen called drone activity the “most serious attack on Danish critical infrastructure” in recent memory.
