Omar Ayub is PTI's nominee for prime minister

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has nominated former minister Omar Ayub Khan for prime minister amid growing political unrest and a race among political groups to secure government formation in Pakistan. Asad Qaiser, the former speaker of the National Assembly, made this announcement, saying that Omar Ayub Khan had been selected as the party’s nominee for prime minister.

Qaiser added that he has been assigned the responsibility of contacting other political parties to negotiate the formation of a government. In this approach, the PTI plans to interact with parties such as the Awami National Party (ANP), Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI), and others.

Qaiser expressed displeasure with the 2024 elections, calling them the worst in Pakistan’s history, accusing massive electoral fraud and saying that the results are not recognized by the international community. He said that Imran Khan, the founder of the PTI, would declare the day of a protest against the purported rigging.

This comes after Shehbaz Sharif was announced as the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N)’s nominee for prime minister a few days earlier. Additionally, sources suggest that Maryam Nawaz, the head of the PML-N, is a candidate for chief minister of Punjab.

Following discussions among allies, the ultimate choice for the prime minister will be decided upon unanimously. According to reports, Maryam Nawaz and Shehbaz Sharif’s nominations have received the approval of PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif.

Provisional results show that independent candidates have won the most seats in the National Assembly, with the PML-N coming in second. The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and other political parties are being courted by the PML-N to establish a coalition government.
