England Dominate as India Lose Key Wickets in Final Test
England Take Control After Key Wickets on Rainy Day Against India
England made big progress on the first day of the final Test match against India by removing key Indian batters KL Rahul, Shubman Gill, and Ravindra Jadeja.
India ended the day at 200 for 6 with Karun Nair unbeaten on 52 and Washington Sundar on 19. England’s bowlers worked hard under overcast skies and were rewarded with important wickets.
Gus Atkinson Shines in Return Match
Gus Atkinson, playing his first match of the series, impressed with two wickets for 31 runs in 19 overs. He also made a big impact by running out Indian captain Shubman Gill, who had been in top form all summer.
Gill, who had already scored over 700 runs in the series, made only 21 runs before being dismissed. His run-out was called a “gift” to England after he went for a poor single and was out by a wide margin.
KL Rahul and Jadeja Fall Early
KL Rahul, who had scored more than 500 runs in the series, was bowled by Chris Woakes for 14. Ravindra Jadeja, who had scored a century in the last match, was dismissed for 9 by Josh Tongue. Tongue also took the wicket of Sai Sudharsan for 38.
Injuries and Misses for Both Teams
India missed Rishabh Pant due to injury, and England’s Chris Woakes suffered a shoulder injury late in the day while trying to stop a boundary.
Despite the rain and slow conditions, England will be happy with their performance. “It’s been a good day,” said Atkinson. “If we get an early wicket tomorrow, we’ll be in a strong position.”
