After six years, Victoria’s Secret is making a comeback to the catwalk
After an absence of almost six years, Victoria’s Secret’s highly anticipated yearly runway show, which showcases supermodels with angel wings and jewel-encrusted bras, will return this autumn. The lingerie company hinted at some format changes in an Instagram post on Wednesday, announcing that the show would be returning without giving a specific date.
The show, which is well-known for its elaborate stage designs, elaborate costumes, and million-dollar bras, has featured musical performances by Rihanna, Taylor Swift, and Justin Bieber in addition to some of the biggest models in the industry, including Adriana Lima, Bella Hadid, and Naomi Campbell.
The business informed Reuters that the 2024 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show will provide exactly what its patrons have been requesting: glamor, runway, fashion, fun, wings, and entertainment—all presented through a strong, contemporary lens that reflects who we are today.
The retailer, a division of parent company L Brands, canceled the program in 2019 with the justification that it was “important to evolve the marketing of Victoria’s Secret.” L Brands faced a number of challenges at the time, such as declining sales due to its costly underwear, pressure from activist investors, and mounting criticism for its antiquated brand image and for selling lingerie that did not fit all body shapes.
L Brands divided into Bath & Body Works and Victoria’s Secret, two public brands, in 2021. After the spin-off, sales at the lingerie retailer have kept going down. Victoria’s Secret debuted a documentary titled the Victoria’s Secret World Tour on Amazon Prime last year, following the cancellation of the performance in November 2019. The New York City Plaza Hotel hosted the inaugural Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show in 1995.
