Farhan Ghani Case Adjourned by ATC Till Sept 22

Court Hears Case Against Farhan Ghani, Adjourns Till Sept 22

KARACHI – The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Monday heard a case against Farhan Ghani involving allegations of violence and intimidation against a government officer.

Investigating officer Muhammad Waseem, along with Ghani and other accused, appeared before the court during the proceedings.

The defense counsel urged the court to approve the investigation reports, arguing that the accused had fully complied with court orders by appearing in person. The lawyer also challenged the inclusion of the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) section, saying it did not apply to the case.

“If the section was not applicable, why was it imposed in the first place?” the judge remarked, noting that the matter should have been referred to a magistrate.

The defense requested that the court direct the magistrate to review the case. However, the judge said a decision on the reports would be made strictly in accordance with the law.

During the hearing, Ghani sought permission to perform Umrah, informing the court he would leave on Saturday and return by September 19. The defense also requested an adjournment until Monday instead of September 20, which the court accepted, setting the next hearing for September 22.

The defense’s request to exempt Ghani from appearing at the next hearing was turned down. The ATC stated it would issue a ruling on the police reports at the upcoming session before adjourning proceedings until September 22.
