Farmers Flood Relief Package Announced
Govt Plans Farmers’ Package, Tax Relief for Flood-Hit Areas
ISLAMABAD — Federal Minister Rana Tanveer on Monday announced that the government is preparing a special package to compensate farmers for crop and livestock losses caused by recent floods.
He said the package would include tax exemptions on electricity bills in affected areas. “The federal government will absorb the cost of electricity relief, while provincial governments will waive land revenue,” the minister explained.
Rana Tanveer also clarified that complaints about extra charges in pre-printed electricity bills from flood-hit regions had been noted. He said proposals are being considered to remove income tax, additional duties, and retailer sales tax from electricity bills in those areas.
“Whatever relief is possible for flood victims will be delivered,” the minister assured.
The government is currently carrying out a survey of flood-affected districts, expected to be completed within 7–10 days. Based on the findings, a comprehensive farmers’ compensation package will be rolled out.
Sharing initial data, Rana Tanveer said nationwide crop losses were between 1 to 3 percent, with Gujranwala division facing the worst hit at up to 18 percent. Rice has been identified as the most severely damaged crop.
