Fawad Khan didn’t love Humsafar as much as you did: “It was just a pay cheque”
On Ahmad Ali Butt’s podcast Excuse Me, Fawad Khan, the leading man in Pakistani entertainment, revealed some shocking details about the nation’s favorite drama, Humsafar, including the fact that he didn’t want to perform it at all.
Khan went back to the beginning of his trip, when social media was nonexistent and people used movies and music as ways to escape reality. For those who don’t know, Khan is most known for his band Entity Paradigm. The self-taught musician’s career began in 2000 when he joined the renowned Pakistani band as their lead singer. He was questioned by Butt, another member of the rock group, over his exit from the project. While there was undoubtedly some drama there, Khan assured fans that it was not the result of creative differences. “I prefer not to stir up controversy, but EP’s split was a messy one with valid reasons, but that’s all in the past now.”
With no acting opportunities in sight and no intention of returning to music, the actor decided to marry his sweetheart, Sadaf Khan. He described how he made the decision to get married without giving it much thought. “God provides for you when you get married, and those means grow when you have kids,” the actor clarified, adding that this was not his motivation for getting married. Obviously, his wife turned out to be his fortunate charm in this situation.
In reference to professional turning points, Khan acknowledged that he was uninterested in working on Humsafar since he felt it was an overly familiar tale. He turned down the script twice at first because he wanted to do something else, but Humsafar’s producer Momina Duraid persisted.
He made light of the fact that he saw the show as little more than his paycheck. Despite being appreciative of Humsafar for providing him with further possibilities and helping to advance his career, the actor added in a funny way, “It’s like a scenario where you don’t get to choose your parents or your siblings.”
Khan openly stated that his genuine love is movies and that neither the music nor the theater industries fascinate him anymore. He emphasized that it is impossible to escape the phenomena of movies and movie stars. He explained that unlike watching TV, where you can change the channel and go between dramas, viewing a movie in a theater does not enable you to turn it off.
The actor talked about his Bollywood debut, Khoobsurat, in which he starred opposite Sonam Kapoor. Even though he also participated in a screentest for the project, he acknowledged that the buzz from Humsafar was the reason the chance fell into his lap.
He also talked about how much he enjoyed working on his other Bollywood production, Kapoor and Sons, and how the project really brought out the best in him as an actor. In response to Butt’s question about whether he was viewed as a threat to his Bollywood colleagues, Khan said, “Look, every industry has its politics. I got a lot of love from India.” Although it’s simpler to fight in your own industry, it also exists in Pakistan.
With the exception of movie trailers and ad campaigns, Khan’s account is essentially inactive in a time when social media stars are famous. He acknowledged that he is not very active on social media and that his team manages his accounts. According to one of Pakistan’s biggest movie stars, “Social media and constant availability dilutes the power of a movie star,” and we believe him.
