Fear Mars Elections in Pakistan as four police officers are killed in DI Khan
As the nation prepares to hold polls for the general elections of 2024, a terrorist incident in Dera Ismail Khan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, on Thursday resulted in the martyrdom of at least four police officers.
Three more police officers were injured, one of whom is critically injured, when the militants in the Kulachi Tehsil, according to the authorities, assaulted the police car with a grenade.
As part of security preparations ahead of today’s federal elections, the Ministry of Interior in Pakistan “temporarily” banned cellular communications earlier in the morning.
A spokesman for the interior ministry claimed that in the days leading up to the national elections, numerous terrorist attacks in the nation claimed innocent lives.
In the meantime, an improvised explosive device (IED) explosion in Gwadar, Balochistan, injured two Levies employees.
The explosion occurred on Quetta’s Sariab Road, but according to the police, no fatalities have been reported.
A late-night attack on a police station in DI Khan on February 5 resulted in the martyrdom of at least ten police officers and the injuries of six more.
According to authorities, at three in the morning, terrorists in the district’s Tehsil Daraban attacked the police station with heavy weaponry. With grenades and heavy gunfire, the terrorists stormed the police station from all sides.
The law enforcement agency said that although the police responded in kind, the terrorists managed to flee during the night.
As per the figures released by the Department of Interior and Tribal Affairs KP, the regions most impacted by terrorism include Tank, Peshawar, Khyber, Bajaur, and North and South Waziristan; the areas afflicted by terror also include DI Khan.
A total of 1,050 terrorist incidents occurred in KP last year, according to the Home and Tribal areas’ data. Of those, 419 occurred in the organized districts and 631 in the combined districts.
