Flood Alert Issued in Punjab and Sindh as River Flow Surges

LAHORE/RAWALPINDI – The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a flood warning amid rising water levels in major rivers, with a moderate flood reported at a key barrage where water discharge has reached 418,000 cusecs. The PDMA has cautioned that river flow may continue to increase in the coming hours.

According to a PDMA spokesperson, concerned departments have been alerted to remain on high alert as floodwaters rise. Minor flood conditions have also been observed at the Guddu and Sukkur barrages.

Emergency response teams, including Rescue 1122, and departments such as Local Government, Irrigation, Agriculture, and Health, have been directed to finalize all precautionary and emergency arrangements. Alerts have also been sent to the Forest, Livestock, and Transport departments.

The Director General of PDMA emphasized the urgency of implementing all safety measures without delay, in line with directives issued by the Chief Minister of Punjab. Officials have been instructed to keep the public informed with real-time updates on the evolving flood situation.

Citizens are strongly advised to stay vigilant, follow official safety protocols, and in case of emergencies, contact the PDMA helpline at 1129.

Urban Flood Threat in Rawalpindi Prompts Emergency Measures

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has warned of potential urban flooding in Rawalpindi due to heavy rainfall expected between July 15 and August 31. A flood emergency has been declared across the city, and all departments have been placed on high alert.

The Rawalpindi district administration has established seven flood relief camps, offering essential services including food, medicine, clean water, shelter, and security for affected citizens.

According to the Deputy Commissioner of Rawalpindi, 24-hour monitoring of Nullah Lai and other seasonal streams is underway to manage the situation and ensure a timely response to any emergencies.
