KARACHI/LAHORE — Authorities remain on high alert as floodwaters continue to swell across Sindh and Punjab, prompting large-scale evacuations and raising concerns over rising river levels.

Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Memon said on Monday that more than 7,700 people were evacuated from katcha areas in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of displaced residents to over 141,600.

He confirmed that exceptionally high floods were reported at Ganda Singh Wala and Sidhnai headworks, while the Indus River is experiencing a medium flood at Guddu and Sukkur barrages and a low flood downstream at Kotri Barrage.

At Guddu Barrage, water inflow was recorded at 443,494 cusecs, with an outflow of 434,294 cusecs.

At Kotri Barrage, inflows reached 233,788 cusecs, with outflows slightly lower at 231,763 cusecs.

Earlier, the Flood Forecasting Division had warned of a sharp rise in water levels across Punjab’s major rivers, particularly the Sutlej, Chenab, and Ravi.

In the Sutlej River, water flow at Ganda Singh Wala surged to 327,000 cusecs, while Head Sulemanki recorded 137,000 cusecs and Head Islam 118,000 cusecs.

The Chenab River also reported heavy inflows, with 45,000 cusecs at Head Marala, 115,000 cusecs at Head Khanki, and 120,000 cusecs at Qadirabad. At Head Trimmu alone, the discharge was a massive 438,000 cusecs.

Meanwhile, the Ravi River continues to swell, carrying 30,000 cusecs at Jassar, 66,000 cusecs at Shahdara, 109,000 cusecs at Head Balloki, and 135,000 cusecs at Head Sidhnai.

Officials have urged residents of low-lying and riverine areas to remain cautious, as flood levels are expected to remain critical in the coming days.
