Gaza Genocide Claims Intensify as Israel Expands Offensive

Gaza Crisis Deepens as Genocide Scholars Accuse Israel of Atrocities

GAZA CITY – The International Association of Genocide Scholars has passed a resolution declaring that Israel’s actions in Gaza meet the legal definition of genocide, adding fresh international scrutiny to the ongoing conflict. Israel has not yet responded to the statement, but has consistently rejected such accusations in the past.

At the same time, Israel is pressing forward with plans to seize full control of the Gaza Strip, beginning with Gaza City. Officials say the goal is to dismantle Hamas and rescue the 48 hostages who remain in captivity nearly two years after the war began.

Residents described harrowing scenes overnight as Israeli forces moved into the Sheikh Radwan neighborhood in eastern Gaza City. According to locals, troops sent in old armored vehicles and detonated them remotely, destroying homes and displacing families. Leaflets dropped from the air urged civilians to head south, warning that the offensive would soon expand westward.

“People are confused, stay and die, or leave towards nowhere,” said resident Mohammad Abu Abdallah, 55, describing the bombardment as “a night of horror.”

Rising Toll of Death and Hunger

The Israeli military said its forces had struck Hamas positions across Gaza in the past 24 hours. Gaza’s health ministry reported at least 98 Palestinians killed by Israeli fire during that period. It also said nine more people, including three children, died of starvation, bringing the total deaths from malnutrition to at least 348, including 127 children. Israel disputes these figures, claiming the fatalities were due to other medical reasons.

Local health officials added that 19 people, among them women and children, were killed in Israeli airstrikes on homes in Gaza City. The Israeli military gave no immediate comment.

Cabinet Discussions and Mounting Pressure

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu convened his security cabinet late Sunday to weigh a new offensive aimed at capturing Gaza City, which Israel views as Hamas’s stronghold. Military leaders have cautioned that such operations could endanger hostages still held in Gaza. Meanwhile, protests inside Israel demanding an end to the war and the release of hostages have intensified.

The conflict began on October 7, 2023, when Hamas fighters launched a cross-border assault that killed about 1,200 people in southern Israel and abducted 251 others. Of the 48 hostages still in captivity, 20 are believed to be alive.

According to Gaza’s health ministry, more than 63,000 people have been killed since Israel began its campaign — the majority of them civilians. Much of the territory has been reduced to rubble, with its population facing a humanitarian catastrophe.
