The head of the United Nations, António Guterres, said in a speech that climate change and war are making hunger worse. “Hunger causes more fighting and stops peace,” he said. “We must never accept hunger as a weapon.”
On Sunday, Israel began a “tactical pause” in the fighting. This was done so aid groups could bring in food and help hungry people in Gaza. But the World Health Organization says that hunger and malnutrition in Gaza are already at very dangerous levels.
In Sudan, the situation is also very bad. The UN says it is the “biggest humanitarian crisis” in the world right now. Since April 2023, fighting between two military leaders has killed tens of thousands of people and forced over seven million to leave their homes.
