Sindh Govt Steps In to Bury Humaira Asghar
Sindh Government Offers to Bury Actress Humaira Asghar
Minister Zulfiqar Shah has spoken to the Karachi police about the case of actress Humaira Asghar. He said that if her family does not come forward to claim her body or arrange her funeral, the Culture Department will act as her legal guardian and take care of her burial.
To make sure everything is handled properly, the minister has made the Director General of Culture the main contact person. Also, the Secretary of Culture has written to the DIG East, asking for Humaira’s body to be officially handed over to the department.
The Sindh Minister said that Humaira is not abandoned. He promised that the Culture Department would arrange her burial if the family didn’t. Still, he added that they will first try their best to convince her parents to accept her body.
How Her Body Was Found
Humaira’s body was found on July 8, 2025. Police from Gizri Station, along with a court officer, broke into her fourth-floor apartment in the Ittehad Commercial Area. They were carrying out a court order to evict her because she had not paid rent since April 2024.
Neighbors had smelled something bad for some time, but no one knew exactly where it was coming from. A nearby apartment was empty until February 2025, which may have delayed the discovery of her body.
Both the front and balcony doors were locked, suggesting she was alone when she died.
Family Not Responding
The case became more difficult because Humaira’s family was not cooperating. The Gizri police officer called her father, but he refused to claim her body, saying they had not been in contact for years.
Her brother did talk to the police but said he wouldn’t come to Karachi.
Recently, her brother-in-law contacted the authorities and said he is ready to take responsibility for her body, which is still kept at the Chhipa morgue.
