Forensic Probe Deepens in Actress Humaira Asghar’s Mysterious Death

KARACHI — The investigation into the mysterious death of Pakistani actress and model Humaira Asghar has intensified, as authorities continue to piece together clues following the discovery of her body in a Defence apartment last week.

According to investigative sources, nine critical samples — including materials from her body and residence — have been sent to the forensic laboratory at the University of Karachi. Among them is a blood sample from Humaira’s brother, which will assist in confirming her DNA identification.

Forensic experts collected four samples from her body and four from her apartment during the autopsy and scene examination. These are expected to help determine the cause of death.

Committee Formed to Probe Case
On Sunday, South SSP Mahzoor Ali announced the formation of a special committee to investigate the case. The committee is being led by SP Clifton Imran Jakhrani and includes SDPO Defence Aurangzeb Khattak, ASP Nida, and SHO Gizri Farooq Sanjrani.

Police have also made headway by unlocking three mobile phones and a tablet belonging to the actress, using passwords recovered from her diary. The devices’ data and chat history are now under review. However, her laptop remains inaccessible.

Petition Filed Alleging Murder
In a major development, a citizen named Shahzaib Sohail has filed a petition in Karachi’s City Court, alleging that Humaira’s death was not natural but a premeditated murder. He cited disturbing video evidence from the scene and raised concerns about her estranged relationship with her family, who reportedly refused to claim her body.

The petition urges the court to involve her family in the investigation and names SSP South and SHO Gizri as respondents.

Locked Room Mystery
Police officials, including DIG South Asad Raza, stated that Humaira’s apartment was locked from the inside, with no signs of forced entry, suggesting no immediate evidence of foul play. However, inconsistencies in communication records and the absence of any contact with friends or family since late 2024 have raised suspicions.

Her final social media activity was traced back to September 2024, while her phone records show no outgoing communication after October 4, 2024.

Body Discovered During Eviction
The 32-year-old actress, known for her appearances in Tamasha Ghar and the film Jalaibee, had been living alone in her Ittehad Commercial Area apartment. On July 8, 2025, police discovered her decomposing body after forcing entry into the apartment to execute an eviction order due to unpaid rent since April 2024.

A foul odor had been reported by neighbors, but due to an adjacent vacant apartment — unoccupied until earlier this year — the discovery was delayed. The main entrance and balcony doors were locked from the inside, indicating she had been alone at the time of her death.

The forensic lab’s report and the analysis of her digital devices are expected to be crucial in determining whether Humaira Asghar’s death was an accident, suicide, or murder. The case remains under active investigation.
