IHC Advocate Mazari Seeks CCTV Footage
IHC Advocate Seeks Preservation of CCTV Footage Amid Courtroom Incident
Islamabad, September 13, 2025: Advocate Imaan Mazari has requested the Islamabad High Court (IHC) to preserve CCTV footage from Courtroom No. 1 on September 11, between 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM.
Mazari told the court that an unfortunate incident allegedly involving her occurred during this time and stressed the importance of safeguarding the recorded exchange. She also asked the court to provide a copy of the footage on a USB drive for her legal records.
The request comes amid recent attention surrounding remarks made by Chief Justice Sardar Muhammad Sarfraz Dogar about Mazari. On Friday, the chief justice clarified his previous comments regarding potential contempt of court proceedings against her, saying that Mazari is “like a daughter” to him.
The clarification followed a petition filed by activist Mahrang Baloch seeking the removal of Mazari’s name from the Exit Control List (ECL), during which an exchange occurred between the bench and Mazari. According to the state-run APP, during Thursday’s hearing, the chief justice had remarked: “You said I am not a judge but a dictator — why should contempt of court proceedings not be initiated against you?” Mazari replied that her statements remained within the bounds of law and the Constitution.
On Friday, Chief Justice Dogar explained that his comments had been taken “out of context.” He emphasized that his intention was only to counsel Mazari and advise her not to make personal remarks against the court, even if she disagreed with judicialjudicial decisions.
“Imaan Mazari is like a daughter to me. Yesterday, I was only trying to counsel her as an elder and as the chief justice,” he said. He further denied ever suggesting her arrest, noting that such impressions were wrongly circulated.
The chief justice added that he was mindful that contempt proceedings could harm Mazari’s career. “I tried to explain it to her like one would to their own children, but she kept insisting on fundamental rights — does this court not have fundamental rights too?” he questioned.
