ILMpact Programme Launched to Help 80,000 Out-of-School Children in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has officially launched the ILMpact education programme to support 80,000 out-of-school children in eight districts of the province. The programme was initiated with the assistance of the United Kingdom’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) and is being implemented through the British Council.
The launch ceremony was held at the Chief Minister’s House in Peshawar and was led by Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur. Other important guests included Provincial Education Minister Faisal Khan Tarakai, British Council Country Director James Hampson, and other officials from the education department.
What is ILMpact?
The ILMpact programme focuses on improving education in these districts: Battagram, Mansehra, Swabi, Buner, Shangla, Khyber, Mohmand, and Dera Ismail Khan. The goal is to bring children who are not currently attending school into the classroom and improve the quality of education.
Special focus: The programme will help girls, poor children, children with disabilities, and children from minority communities.
Teacher training: Master trainers will train teachers in modern teaching methods.
Community support: Parent-Teacher Councils and School Management Committees will also be trained to improve schools.
Awareness campaigns: These will be launched to promote the importance of education, especially for girls.
Government’s Vision
At the event, CM Gandapur thanked the UK and all partner organisations for supporting this cause. He said, “Our mission is to not only provide education but quality education. No child in a government school should be without a chair or desk. Funds have been allocated for this.”
He added that this programme is part of a larger plan to reform and modernise the education system in the province.
Achievements and Future Plans
In the last year, 1.3 million out-of-school children were enrolled in schools.
The government now aims to enrol 1 million more children this year.
Plans are in place to give free textbooks, stationery, and school bags to students.
18,000 new teachers will be hired based on merit to improve education standards.
CM Gandapur also emphasised that girls’ education is a top priority:
“An educated mother can build an educated nation,” he said.
