In order to pioneer next-generation fiber optic broadband in Pakistan, PTCL and Huawei are conducting a 50G-PON trial

The nation’s top broadband service provider, Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL), is pleased to report that the nation’s first 50G-PON technology trial was completed successfully. The ITU-T defines 50G-PON as a next-generation passive optical network-based broadband technology that is expected to transform Pakistan’s digital landscape. Compared to the current GPON and XG(S)-GPON technologies, 50G-PON delivers an incredible 50 Gbps per PON port. This technological advancement is expected to unlock the infinite potential for bandwidth-intensive and low-latency next-generation services, unlocking future requirements related to industries, enterprises, campuses, and home environments.
