Honey Singh’s wife drops the domestic abuse accusations, and the court granted her a divorce

Court grants divorce to Honey Singh as wife

A Delhi court on Tuesday formally granted singer-rapper Honey Singh and his wife Shalini Talwar a divorce after nearly 13 years of marriage, according to The Hindustan Times. Principal Judge Paramjit Singh of the family court concluded the divorce, bringing an end to a nearly two-and-a-half-year legal battle.

A second motion under the Hindu Marriage Act is normally filed six to eighteen months following the first divorce petition. The interregnum, or waiting period, is intended to provide both parties space and time to consider whether to move forward with the divorce.

Section 13B of the Hindu Marriage Act was used in the joint September 2022 family court divorce petition filed by Singh and Talwar, who were wed in January 2011. Their petition was accepted by the court, and the necessary six-month interregnum term was given.

The magazine received confirmation from Honey Singh’s lawyer, Ishan Mukherjee, that “the divorce decree has been issued, and the second motion has been granted.” He reiterated that this was a personal marital dispute and declined to say further. Advocate Vivek Singh, Talwar’s lawyer, declined to comment as well, citing the marital disagreement as the reason.

Shalini brought a domestic violence case against the singer at the Delhi Tis Hazari Court in August 2021. Singh fiercely refuted the accusations on social media a few days after the complaint was filed, calling them “malicious,” “false,” and “odious.” But after the two sides reached a deal, the accusations were later abandoned.
