Indus River Flood Alert Water Surges at Guddu Barrage
Rising Indus River Triggers Medium Flood at Guddu Barrage
A medium flood continues at Guddu Barrage as the Indus River swells, with water levels rising by 20,000 cusecs in the past 12 hours, according to officials at the barrage control room.
The current inflow at Guddu Barrage stands at 375,500 cusecs, while the outflow has been recorded at 335,800 cusecs. Authorities have also released water into the barrage’s three off-taking canals, further increasing pressure on the already weakened embankments.
Residents expressed concern over the deteriorating condition of canal banks, warning that the lack of timely maintenance could lead to dangerous breaches.
The barrage control room has forecast a further rise in the Indus River’s water level over the next 24 hours, urging nearby communities and irrigation departments to remain vigilant.
Meanwhile, the Flood Forecasting Division reported a low flood at Sukkur Barrage, with inflows reaching 289,500 cusecs and outflows at 240,800 cusecs. Downstream at Kotri Barrage, the inflow was measured at 77,100 cusecs and outflow at 40,800 cusecs.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely amid concerns of flooding and infrastructure strain along the Indus River basin.
